Person admits sexual offenses against children at summer camp
A person who spiked treats with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two young males both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She said the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained objects including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were found, and his family member notified the police about his suspicions.
She said Ruben went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the law enforcement a second time.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
